Hello Rwanda Crew 2018!
One of our favorite words in Kinyarwanda, the primary language spoken in the place we’ll all soon call home in a few weeks, is nta kibazo, which translates roughly to “no problems” or “no questions.” Nta kibazo (pronounced “nachibazo”) is a word you’ll likely hear often once we’re in country, and there’s good reason for it: the people of Rwanda are generous of spirit and eager to share their home with you. We, too, are eager to welcome you to the land of a thousand hills! We know you may have a lot of questions about Rwanda and Nymata, the community where we’ll be staying; about your community service projects and what kinds of independent projects you might pursue; about us and about each other…!

In Vermont this weekend, we’ve been working hard to make sure this summer is full of new friendships, exciting discovery, and meaningful service. As much as we love swimming in the pond at the Putney Barn and soaking in the sunshine at the apple orchard down the road, we’re ready to head out to the steep green hills and red roads of Rwanda. Hopefully you’re as excited as we are! Until our program, read as much as you can about Rwanda and its history: Rwanda’s story is rich and complex and its culture is vibrant and warm. Taking some time to learn what you can about this tiny nation in the heart of East Africa will help you begin to see all of the facets that make this place what it is today. And all those questions you have? Nta kibazo! We’ll be ready for them.
Murabeho!
