Today we visited the US embassy which ended up being a very interesting and unexpected trip. Going to the US embassy, I was not quite sure what to expect as I am not from the United States and half of my nationality is Mexican. I was confused about what we were going to talk about and how they were going to take me in.
After passing through a lot of security, we met three people with all different specialties and focuses and they gave us an introduction to what they do in Rwanda. They talked about a program, US Aid that funds and creates different activities that help to better Rwanda in many different aspects. Their main focus is to advance Democracy and promote stable government, economic growth, health sector strengthening and, increasing education. Then we also got some information about how they work on gender equality and social inclusion. After the presentation, we were able to ask questions. This ended up being very interesting as we asked about issues we see in the system and they struggled to answer some of our questions.
It became clear to me that while USAID is very helpful and does a lot with the funds that they are given, there is always room for improvement and still much that requires more effort.
