First Day at CECHE

This post features student writing.

Hi, it’s Ella and Izzy! We started off the day by walking to CECHE Foundation, a daycare that integrates disabled kids with other primary and secondary schoolchildren. When we first arrived, we were introduced to the foundation, their mission, and our involvement.

First, we were split into groups of two and matched with a mother and her child. We recorded the kids’ body measurements to personalize the size of the specialized chairs we were about to build them. After we recorded their measurements, we spent some time with all the kids.

We then started the construction process! We cut the cardboard with saws to create the frame of the chairs. A few students worked with one of the workers to make the glue we would be using to piece it all together—it was a mixture of cassava plants, boiling water, and cold water. Then, after a long day of building, we came back to the guest house and had a chill evening 🙂
